Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Rei (meaning “universal wisdom”) and Ki (meaning “life force energy”). Reiki promotes stress, anxiety, and depression relief, better sleep, increased focus and energy, intuitive awareness, pain relief, trauma relief, reduces blood pressure, supports healing emotionally and spiritually, and it also helps aid in breaking addictions/unhealthy habits.
In a reiki session the client lays on a table fully clothed under a cozy blanket. The practitioner uses gentle touch and hovering energy techniques to assist in moving the stagnant/stuck energy from the body. The treatment feels like a small electric charge that flows through and around you. It’s like a massage but for your energy body and nervous system, you don’t actually get a massage, but your body calms down as if you’ve had one! You may experience sensations in the body such as heat, tingling, or somatic releasing. A typical session lasts anywhere from 20-90 minutes. In my own practice I also like use a variety of sound healing techniques including light language, sound bowls, tuning forks, other instruments, essential oils, and calming background music.
